Yesterday I drove the 13 hours to and from Oakland for the Image Expo.  I’ve never driven that much in one day in my life.  Right now it seems the only ill effect is that my right ass cheek is numb… TMI?  lol

I am surprised Faith/Kelly (the Mustang) was able to make the trip without any problems.  I’ll reward her with a wash and wax sometime this week.

I really should be writing right now, but my brain is still scattered all over the place.  I hate getting into these modes.  🙁

Here’s my interview with Comic Book and Movie Reviews!  Check it out!

P.S. Though links to my Arcana books are in the interview, I figured I’d add them here again!
Blood, Shells, & Roses on Amazon.com & Amazon.co.uk / Diamond code: AUG110795

One of the books I’m doing through Arcana Comics finally has a tentative release date!  Blood, Shells, & Roses will be released on or around Oct 18, 2011 according to the Amazon pre-release page.

For those attending the San Diego Comic Con next week, I’m going to be at the Arcana booth (booth 2415) promoting and signing copies of Blood, Shells, & Roses.  Stop on by!  I’m scheduled to sign on the following schedule:

Saturday – July 23rd
11:00 AM – 11:45 AM
03:00 PM – 03:45 PM
06:00 PM – 06:45 PM

Sunday – July 24th
12:00 PM – 12:45 PM
03:00 PM – 03:45 PM

P.S. The full first and second issues are up on www.ChaosCampus.com.  Issue #3 has begun!  Updates continue every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!

UPDATE: I was just informed that advance copies of Amour GN vol. 1 & 2 will also be available!  Add this on top of the possible advance copies of Lethal Instinct TPB vol 1 and that will make four new books for your reading pleasure!  You’ll have to see it to believe it, haha!

Ha… I pretty much explained everything in the first journal entry.  I guess I’ll copy and paste here, too:

“As some of you know, Chaos Campus: Sorority Girls vs. Zombies is a printed comic book series, but I’ve been considering bringing it over to web publication for a while now.  What better time than the day after the supposed Rapture to actually do it?!

This doesn’t mark the end of the print series.  Those of you who follow the traditionally published series will be rewarded with knowing more about the storyline far in advance than your web reading peers.  At the moment of this posting, most of the first Act has been published- this means 20 issues of main story and 5 issues of the Extra Credit supplementary issues.  By the time the web comic gets to this point, the printed issues should be at issue 40 (the end of Act 2) or possibly even the last issue (#60).  We’ll play it all by ear.

At this point I’m thinking that new pages will be uploaded three times a week- Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  Depending on how things go that number can go down to twice a week or up to five times a week.  Again, we’ll play it all by ear.

So here it is… the first image for the site which also happens to be the cover art to the first issue.  Long time readers and new readers, feel free to sound off in the comments section.”

For everyone who said the pages on here were too small and too difficult to read, I had you guys in mind.  Enjoy the larger sized pages!  🙂

It’s roughly two and a half months before SDCC and I need to get as much as possible ready before then. As I become more serious about writing being my career I have to think more about branding myself, how others can brand me, and the type of writer I’m perceived as. What is my BAT brand? My stories tend to fall in three groups:

1. Dark Horror – Serious, graphic violence, blood, adult language, nudity.
2. Horror/Humor – Morbid comedy, the above stuff just toned down some, more humor.
3. Horror/SciFi/Action – Though one genre might dominate, the other two are close second.

So I’m pretty much a Horror writer. Yeah, I know we’re all surprised at this revelation. Knowing this, I know this is where I need to market myself more, but I don’t want to just be trapped in that realm. I have some All Ages stuff in the works. Some other irons in the fire.

I also want to do a webcomic. For years I’ve balked at the idea, but I dunno… after reading a few on a regular basis, the format seems interesting and my brain “gets it” now. So after so many requests, I’m making CC a webcomic… posting the pages from the older issues. The first 20 issues should keep things going for about 5 years with 3 pages a week. It also shouldn’t encroach on the print version and should actually do a nice job promoting the print versions.

I’m also planning a new webcomic that I’ll turn into print versions later. That one’s a bit more challenging and intimidating, but it’s also exciting. It won’t have monsters, gore, or nudity, but it has humor and drama and I like it. John has to get back to me on his comments on what I have so far, but when I sent him the original idea for the concept he REALLY loved it. So if he digs it, I hope other people will too.

So yeah… gotta make websites for those which will be a new and mind boggling experience. Then the main Appro site needs a major upgrade/facelift.

And I still have the usual roster of projects in different stages of development to work on.

@_@

Rewriting and revising about 8 stories while with what little brain real estate is left I have 2 stories I’ve just started and another idea gestating. This is the most real work I’ve done in months and holy hell it’s tough, yet satisfying. My brain hurts, but not hemorrhaging yet, so there’s still more I can do.

Two stories had decent enough act 1’s that after 9 straight hours of work I was able to send material to the artists. One story resulted in 32 pages (a full issue) and the other only 17 pages. 9 hours for almost 50 pages.

And that was the “easy” stuff.

*Insert the “Peter, You Suck” song from Forgetting Sarah Marshall here*

The story I thought was pretty much done is one of the worst offenders. I have to restructure the story because I’m switching protagonists, plus a ton of other structure issues. ARG!!!

Enough of this hard work. I’m here to read and then off to play with one of my newer ideas.

I will be attending, mostly floating around and attending meetings.  I’m not on the official Arcana schedule, but since I’m assured at least the first issue of my new mini series “Blood, Shells, & Roses” will be there I’ll probably be there sometime or another.  Keep checking in and asking my whereabouts!

If you’re attending, let me know if you’ll be walking around or at a booth (and the location and times).

There was a previous Chaos Campus series to test the waters with the concept.  Those issues were collected within the Chaos Campus: Orientation TPB.  You can snag a copy of that physical 162 page book right here.

It is with great sadness I’ve learned that Pat Carlucci died this morning.

The following is from Pat’s wife Dawn via Pat’s DA:

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Patrick Carlucci passed away this morning after a 5 year battle with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends.

I want to take this moment to thank everyone for their prayers, donations, and support for Pat and his family during this difficult time. Pat touched so many people through his art, his appearances at shows, and through the kindness he expressed to everyone. He was a very talented artist and will be greatly missed!

My family and I send our love to each and every one of you! I will post details regarding his funeral arrangements some time tomorrow afternoon.

Best regards,

Dawn Carlucci
